The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It has developed the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to issue unique identifiers to health care providers. These records can be accessed at the National Provider Identifier (NPI) Registry online.
The NPI is a 10-digit numeric identifier assigned to individual and organization health care providers in the United States like nurses, physicians, dermatologists, pediatricians and more. For example you can look up nurses in Florida, physicians in New Jersey or any dermatologist in the US.
Recently CMS has announced that the full replacement monthly NPI File (also referred to as the NPPES Downloadable File) has now been revised to include deactivated NPIs and the date of deactivation within the file. The deactivated NPIs in the file can be displayed by filtering on the column name “NPI Deactivation Date”. In addition, CMS will also make available a weekly incremental NPI file and a full replacement monthly NPI deactivation file.
Since the data dissemination file is greater than 4 GB older file compression utilities may not be able to extract this file properly. To avoid any problems extracting this file we have processed it into the database and created downloadable products that are much easier to handle. The downloadable products come in ZIP format, containing 51 CSV files, one for each US state. Prices starting at $39 USD.
As of our last update of November 1, 2017, the complete list of doctors contains 1,455,329 records. These include professionals such as chiropractors, internists, pediatricians, family doctors, internists, obstetricians, surgeons and more.
We invite you to download a free and complete Wyoming Nurses and Physician Assistants Mailing List to see for yourself what the data looks like.
